Trainee Legal Executive

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic individual to join our very busy tax & estate planning team as a full time trainee legal executive as soon as possible.

To be considered for the role you will already be studying to qualify as a legal executive.  You will have attained ILEX Level 3 or be coming towards the end of your ILEX Level 3 studies.  You must also have some experience of working within the legal environment.

Finally you must be able to demonstrate a genuine interest in tax & estate planning work and a wish to qualify into this practice area.

Main responsibilities

  • Initially the trainee legal executive will be expected to undertake the following tasks with minimal supervision:
  • To create and maintain client files within the parameters of Lexcel Quality Standards
  • To generate suitable client correspondence, as directed by supervisor
  • To comply with the firm's routine time recording, accounts and administrative disciplines within the parameters of Lexcel Quality Standards.
  • Take basic will instructions and draft will documents
  • Take initial Advanced Medical Directive instructions and draft appropriate directives
  • Take Lasting Powers of Attorney instructions, draft documentation and deal with registration 
  • Complete the registration of EPAs
  • Take instruction of Deputyship appointments and complete associated application
  • Complete annual Deputyship accounts
  • Undertake basic estate administration work, to include drafting oaths and affidavits
  • Enter estate details onto Isokon software package
  • Balance and finalise estate accounts
  • Maintain accurate client account information, review work in progress and undertake billing in accordance with department policy
  • To undertake any other reasonable tasks to assist the department, as requested by the practice head

Over a period of time and as the trainee legal executive develops skills and knowledge they will be expected to undertake additional tasks under supervision, as follows:

  • Complete tax and trust returns
  • Prepare IHT400s
  • Prepare trust accounts
  • General administration of Trusts/Deputyships/Attorneyships.
