Estate planning was mentioned in the Autumn 2017 Budget in a number of ways, including increases in personal allowances and stamp duty relief.

It was also announced that the taxation of trusts will be reviewed and consulted on in 2018, we will have to wait and see what this means and how it affects clients in practice. It is always a good idea to ensure your affairs are up to date, and take account of any recent changes to taxation law and how they affect your estate planning.

Where you have made a Will or put in place tax planning provisions such as the creation of trusts, it is a good idea to have these reviewed periodically.

It could also be that the existing agricultural or business property reliefs for inheritance tax will be restricted in the future, which could significantly affect your future liability, and with some planning and foresight any such changes could be mitigated.

We offer a Legal Review Programme to all Succession Planning clients; the opportunity to relax in the knowledge that we will proactively review your affairs, in light of any changes such as those announced in the latest budget, and advise you of steps you should take and the options available to you.

If you would like more information on our Legal Review Programme, and to review your affairs, please contact Kerin Speedie
