The Government has published a consultation paper which sets out proposals for the way in which businesses handle tips and service charges.

Proposals include:

  • Preventing / limiting Employer deductions from discretionary payments for service (except deductions for tax etc).
  • Updating the existing voluntary code of practice and giving it statutory recognition, to encourage adherence.
  • Increasing transparency for customers.

The consultation paper is available online.  The consultation process will close on 27 June 2016.
