Summarise what your job is?

I work as a Senior Secretary in the family department based in our Canterbury office. I provide assistance to the fee earners within our team and am the first point of contact for all new clients. I recently qualified as a paralegal through CILEx (Chartered Institute of Legal Executives) and I hope to qualify as a Legal Executive within the next couple of years.

How do you get ready to start your day?

My days start early as I like to see the sunrise if I can. This is usually captured during a workout or a walk which provides me with a positive mind set for the day ahead. I have a ten minute walk to the office from my car which allows me to take in the sights and sounds of Canterbury which vary throughout the year.

What is your favourite part of the job?

As I am studying whilst working, I am constantly learning new things. When I have the opportunity to put my hard work into practice I am provided with a huge sense of satisfaction. Obtaining positive outcomes for clients is a highlight particularly when their case comes to an end.

What is the most challenging part of your job?

Working in the family department can be challenging given the nature of the services we provide. When cases go to Court there is a lot of preparatory work involved for both myself and the fee earner that I am supporting.

How do you relax when you finish work?

Depending on the day of the week, there is always something to help me unwind for the day whether it be a walk, a workout or an enjoyable dinner with my family.
