I completed a BA Hons Degree in English Literature at the University of Sheffield. I went on to study law at the College of Law in Chester completing the Postgraduate Diploma in Law followed by the Legal Practice Course.
After qualifying as a solicitor, I practiced as a property litigator for two years with a large regional firm and then relocated to Kent with my wife where I have practiced as a civil litigator for 4 years prior to joining Whitehead Monckton in April 2014. I was promoted to Associate Director in April 2018 and became Head of Dispute Resolution team in October 2020.
While practising I completed a Diploma in Advanced Litigation with Law South and have since continued to develop my interest in mediation and alternative dispute resolution. I have a firm belief in seeking to successfully resolve cases through mediation where possible prior to going to trial.
I have expertise in:
Litigation and Dispute Resolution including:
What my client's say:
"David took over a long running dispute - poor workmanship/project management of my house build. He took it to mediation for me and won. I would have no hesitation in recommending him".
"David, the outcome is far better than I could have hoped. Your calm assurance and guidance has been invaluable thank you very much. We have used the service of your company on two serious occasions and on both I have been extremely happy with the results".
"David Riordan is a superb guy with extensive knowledge and experience!"
"We have found the services offered highly professionally and robust while ever mindful we do not have extensive funds for legal work, the firm ensure they are efficient, effective and provide us with best value without sacrificing excellence or customer service. David Riordan our lead at the firm is an able and proficient advocate for our business"
When out of the office:
I enjoy kayak fishing in the summer around the Kent coast and also occasionally attempt to play cricket for my local village team and a lawyers team. I spent a year teaching English in Akita-Ken in Japan before starting my training contract and have since enjoyed travelling with my wife Rebecca when I get the opportunity.
